Memorial website in the memory of your loved one

Update: Please scroll down to the Legacy section to see information on a scholarship created in Carrie's memory.

This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Carrie Lund who was born on February 12, 1969 and passed away on April 17, 2005 at the age of 36.  She will be remembered forever.

Carrie was the type of person that everyone noticed when she walked into a room – she was beautiful, funny, charismatic, loyal, out-going, and loved to laugh (loudly!).  She was a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, nurse, and friend…whatever your relationship with her, everyone agrees that she was a force in their life.

Above all else in her life, Carrie held family to be most important.  She was in constant communication with all of her siblings and parents (we all joked that she kept Sprint-PCS in business!).  Even though we, as a family, all have very different lives and personalities, we loved spending time together - which usually resulted in telling our family stories and laughing until we cried (or until the beverage of choice was coming out of somebody’s nose!!!).

Carrie’s was a life driven by overcoming adversity and living each day to make a better life for her and her son, Zach.  She had chosen a career in nursing because of her love of medicine and her desire to help others.  While we don’t understand why she was taken from us now, we know that Carrie’s purpose on this earth was to give life…to her son, through her profession, and in her death, through organ donation.

Carrie’s death was due to a car accident, which resulted in severe brain trauma.  Being in the medical field, she had always expressed her wishes regarding life-support and organ donation.  So, when approached with the possibility of organ donation the family was in immediate agreement.  We all take great comfort in knowing that in her death, she was able to give life to at least 4 other people.  Carrie, your family is so proud of you for all that you have overcome and accomplished in your life. Your legacy will live on through your son, your family, and through those who received the gift of life from your organ donation.

Carrie is survived by her son, Zachary Lund; her parents, Douglas and Gail Lund; her sisters Paige Lund, Amie Lund, and April Lund-Espy; her brother Douglas Lund; and her 5 nephews, Bradley, Cole, Colin, Connor, and Carson; and nieces, Caitlyn and Taylor, who lovingly referred to her as “Auntie Kiki”.

An educational fund has been graciously established by Crowne Point Surgery Center in Parker, CO  for Carrie's son, Zachary Lund.  More information on how to contribute to this fund can be found at www.thelunds.net/fund.html

The golf tournament held in Carrie's honor in 2006 was very special to the Lund Family in that we were able to meet one of Carrie's organ recipients, Steve, and his wife Agnes (see pictures).  We are so grateful to have the chance to get to know, and welcome to our extended family, one of Carrie's organ recipients.

Update (4/18/2008):  The Lunds would like to introduce the newest member of Carrie's (and our) family:  Carrie's granddaughter, Addie Marie, was born on September 21, 2007.  To celebrate her life, we are including pictures of Addie on Carrie's memorial webpage.

9/21/2008 - We have added pictures of Addie's (Carrie's granddaughter) 1st Birthday!

Carrie's Legacy

The Carrie G. Lund - Organ Donation Awareness Memorial Scholarship has been created at Central New Mexico Community College by the Lund Family.  Once endowed, this scholarship will assist non-traditional, single-parent students with expenses for nursing school.  We believe helping other students achieve their goals, as Carrie did, is a fitting way to honor her memory and accomplishments.  If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund to help achieve endowment, you may send your (tax-deductable) contributions to:

CNM Foundation

525 Buena Vista Dr. SE

Albuquerque, NM 87106

Be sure to put the name of the scholarship in the Memo line of your check or money order so that it is applied to the correct scholarship.  The Lund family thanks you for your support, and we will update the site once the scholarship has reached endowment and is being awarded!

Carrie's legacy to our family, is her son Zach.  Her legacy to the world is in the way that she touched so many lives -  through friendship, the profession of nursing, and through the precious gifts of life that she gave, in her death, through organ donation.

The following is a poem, from the Christopher Reeve's Foundation, which Carrie had found and taken around work the day before she passed away (she made everybody read it, so it must have been special to her) - our family chose it for the programs we handed out at her memorial service.

She had a vision
And in that vision
She sailed uncharted seas
Flying through cloudless skies

She had a vision
If superman could move mountains
Maybe should could move people
She did more

She had a vision
That we could all
Have x-ray vision if we learned to see
Possibilities rather then impossibilities

She had a vision
That medicine could inspire miracles
And miracles could inspire each of us
To do better, To be better

She had a vision
That few could have imagined
And no one thought possible

Until one mind
One heart
One voice
Stood taller then the rest
And said
We can do more
Follow me,
And we did

See you at the finish line….
